Swoon List: Rook, Taste Cafe, and More
The Swoon List compiles our latest food-and-drink favorites. They’re not ranked, just delicious.
Rook’s (501 Virginia Ave., 317-737-2293) papaya-carrot cake, dusted with foie gras and chocolate and fringed by clouds of Sauternes-infused meringue and dollops of papaya coulis—a dessert we were still talking about the next day.
A hot hunk of truffled toast with two egg yolks cooked on top, dotted with hunks of asparagus at Taste Cafe & Marketplace (5164 N. College Ave., 317-925-2233).
The sizzling dolsot bibimbap at the brand new Omoni Fresh Fast Korean Grill (13710 N. Meridian St., Carmel, 317-810-1668), with crispy rice, marinated grilled beef, and your choice of crunchy veggies topped with an egg. Request a side of tangy ssamjang red sauce to dress it up even further.
The Hog Island Hoagie at Flat 12’s East Coast–inspired sandwich counter Hoagies & Hops (414 Dorman St., 317-296-8430): salami, ham, prosciutto, capicola, and provolone stuffed into a Philly-style hoagie bun and dressed with olive oil, lettuce, tomato, and slivered onions.
One of the dessert-for-breakfast options at Flap-Jacks Pancake House (see flap-jacks.com for locations): strawberry-banana pancakes with extra (no need to request it) whipped cream.
