The Feed: Joella’s Hot Chicken, Penn & Palate, and More
» Get ready to sweat (a little more). Louisville-based fast casual restaurant Joella’s Hot Chicken plans to open its first Indiana location in mid-September at 4715 East 96th Street. The chain, which will set up in a former 96th Street Steakburger spot, pairs Southern-style, made-from-scratch sides like sweet-vinegar slaw and black-eyed pea salad with cayenne-spiced Nashville-style hot chicken. It already has some competition here in Indy.
» Last week, Herron-Morton Place charmer Penn & Palate announced via Facebook that the near-downtown restaurant would be closing its doors on July 30, barely a year after it opened on the ground floor of the historic Piccadilly building. Owners John and Kim Robertson also operate The Legend Classic Irvington Cafe (5614 E. Washington St., 317-536-2028).
» IBJ’s Property Lines reports that Cafe Patachou is closing its Carmel location at 126th Street and Gray Road and will open a new outpost at 5790 East Main Street, near the corner of Hazel Dell Parkway this fall. The 2,800-square-foot space in a former Key Bank branch “will double the size of the brunch hotspot and add a large outdoor dining area.”
» On Wednesday, The Severin Bar inside downtown’s Omni Severin Hotel (40 W. Jackson Place) hosts its monthly Farm to Fork Dinner benefiting Second Helpings. Call 317-634-6664 for reservations.
