Just Pop In, Indeed: Mandy Selke's Cozy Den
Tucked away inside a quaint teal cottage, Just Pop In co-owner Mandy Selke’s colorful basement brims with eclectic relics that are just as darling as the picturesque exterior of her Broad Ripple home.
Wine Rack
When Selke and twin sister Carly aren’t sipping wine in Selke’s boudoir (a massive shoe palace complete with a refinished couch), they enjoy hosting friends for a glass of Cakebread Chardonnay (Selke’s favorite) in this room.
Lights
Selke found these retro fixtures at Colonial Antiques in Zionsville. They were made in 1935, the year her house was built.
Sign
This original Harold’s Steer-In marquee came from Society of Salvage downtown. “I thought it would be a fun touch to have it backlit,” Selke says. “It’s the inspiration for the entire room.”
Jewelry
Local designer Allison Ford made Selke this wooden ring modeled after a brass-fly ashtray her grandparents owned.
Doors
Selke’s mother saved the original doors from Just Pop In’s Guilford Avenue store and gifted them to Selke. “It feels so good to have them in my home, because it reminds me of how far we’ve come.”
Popcorn
Her favorite Just Pop In variety is Dark Chocolate Vintage Merlot Sea Salt—a signature flavor created for the Omni Severin Hotel.
Trinkets
Selke and her sis have attended the New Orleans Jazz Festival every year since 1998. “There’s an artist there named Joy Gauss who makes these really cool skeleton figures, so every year I pick up one to add to my shelves.”
Magazines
Selke collected Rolling Stone during high school. “I grew up with a huge passion for music. The record player was always turned on at our house.”
Roller-Skate Statue
“I stinking love this,” Selke says. “My sister and I were such roller queens. We went roller-skating all the time on Chicago’s Oak Street Beach—it was part of our childhood.”
